EFCC Decries Burying Of A Mother Alive By Her Yahoo Son!

Amidst the growing craze for wealth acquisition by young Nigerians, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has expressed outrage over the attitude of a boy who reportedly buried his biological mother alive to get rich! 

The Acting Zonal Director of the Commission for Makurdi Zonal Directorate, ACE 1, Effa Imo Okim who led his team of officials to the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Benue State Council disclosed during the courtesy visit.

His disclosure of the incident came on the heels of response by the NUJ Chairman, Bemdoo Ugber after the EFCC boss's address for the visit to the Council.

Ugber expressed concern that the Commission appears turning away from prosecuting public corrupt officials but has shifted attention to the war against Yahoo, Yahoo boys!

He acknowledged the negative effects cybercrime has on the nation and urged the EFCC to pay proper attention to reduce the ugly trend.

The Chairman equally urged the anti graft agency to do more by avoiding what seems to look like neglect of the fight against grand corruption in the public places which believably constitutes threat to national developmen!

The NUJ Chairman said, the growing use of plea bargain by the Commission on corruption related cases tended to reduce confidence of Nigerians have for the EFCC's doggedness on the war!

He cautioned against lack of consciousness which tends to give impression that corrupt public officials who abused public trust with reckless abundance were treated better than the alleged perpetrators of cybercrime! 

Ugber however assured the visitors of accurate and factual dissemination of information on programmes and activities of the Commission the public desire enlightenment to abhor corruption.

The Zonal Director disagreed that the Commission turned focus away from the corrupt public officials and faced the criminals called"Yahoo boys!"

According to the Director, since the boys have become ritualists making life difficult for peace loving people in the society, the resolve for sanity has made the anti graft agency to face the syndicate for the purpose of ending the national threat its underestimation has a negative effect on physical and mental wellbeing of all Nigerians.

Cautioning that Yahoo boys currently patronize ritualists for the powers to make money, the EFCC boss disclosed that in the process, they target their parents and kill for acquisition of wealth!

Wondering what future holds for the generation, ACE 1 Effa lamented what he explained, had been the trending video in which one of the Yahoo boys killed his mother to make money!

Advising the public, especially parents to observe cautiously the behaviours and activities of their children, the Zonal Director shared with the media family what he said, was seen in the video.

 According to him, the boy's poor parents paid school fees throughout the primary and secondary school education. Also that he got admission for the higher education but joined a bad group of boys who took him to ritualists for magical powers of wealth acquisition!

The EFCC most top official continued that one of the conditions the ritualists gave to fulfill and become rich was to burry his mother alive under gruesome circumstances!

In fulfilment of the condition, the EFCC boss stated that the boy came on holiday and took time to dig the grave and that after completion, his mother not suspecting anything wrong but feeling safe in the hands her son relaxed unknowingly that her son would do anything untoward!

The boss lamented that the boy hit his mother's mouth with an heavy object. "Not only that she was hit with the tool, he boy tied his mother dragged her into the grave and covered up with soil in compliance with demands of the ritualists!

Based on the development the EFCC insisted that activities of the Yahoo boys were getting out of hand concerted efforts would tame the monstrous trend.

 He called for understanding of emerging situation concerning the Yahoo boys and appealed to the public to see the fight as not abandoning corrupt public officials to enjoy their loots in the middle of the hyper raging cybercrimes! 

On the strength of the position, ACE Effa described the media as "partners on the fight to end corruption" and appealed also against reports that are likely to undermine credibility of the Commission and the NUJ. 

He urged media professionals to always verify news items from EFCC before going to press "because, whatever we do is in the interest of Nigeria and her citizens."
