Civil engineer Mazen Kalassina, recently recognized as the first human acknowledged by Artificial Intelligence (AI), says the historic moment is only the beginning of a broader mission: to drive technology into practical use for development.

In an interview, Kalassina explained that the symbolic milestone has placed on him a responsibility to turn attention away from novelty and towards solutions that can improve everyday life.

“This recognition will only matter if it leads to impact,” he said. “My goal is to show how AI can work side by side with human intelligence to solve pressing challenges.”

According to him, his field of civil engineering is already witnessing the benefits of AI, with new tools capable of designing and costing road projects in hours rather than months. He maintained that such breakthroughs could reshape the speed and quality of infrastructure delivery across communities.
