Nigeria's First Lady Visits Benue, Commissions Projects

First Lady of Nigeria, Senator (Mrs.) Oluremi Tinubu has scheduled official visit to Benue State. The release by Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, Sir Tersoo Kula disclosed that the First Lady would arrive Makurdi on Tuesday, June 16, 2026." 

Details of the release indicate that Mrs. Tinubu's visit would impact on Benue people, particularly the women.

It said "the visit forms part of the renewed Hope Initiative, a nationwide programme dedicated to empowering women, strengthening families and improving the wellbeing of vulnerable groups across the country."

According to the release, the First Lady will condole the Governor and Benue people of the state on "the killings in Yelewata and Daudu communities." 

The release noted that the First Lady presented "a cheque of one billion naira to support victims of the attack" on the communities to enable recovery when she visited the state the first time.

The statement expressed the desire of Tinubu's wife on the importance of peaceful coexistence for growth and development of the state and described the killings as "heart-wrenching and unnecessary."

Mrs Tinubu's earlier visit according to the release empowered five hundred women with equipment like freezers and grinding machines among others to boost income generation for the beneficiaries.

It added that the earlier visit facilitated the "distribution of 60,000 free exercise books to students and six scholarship slots for talented girls from Benue to attend the African School of Economics." 

Other areas of impact stated by the release included grants for women to engage in the agricultural and ICT activities. It continued "the initiative also supports elderly citizens, persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups with cash transfers, medical screenings and essential medicines." 

Mrs. Tinubu's visit to Benue on Tuesday disclosed by the Chief Press Secretary would be to commission several road projects and ICT training centre for promoting digital literacy, encourage innovative entrepreneurship for women and youth to be relevant in the rapidly evolving and thriving digital economy.
