Benue CAN Takes Gospel Beyond Church Walls - Group

The group known as Pan African Integrity Initiative Centre, Abuja has identified the Deputy Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Benue State Chapter, Rev. Jonathan Terwase Ugbede for award of honour, described him as a "relentlessly supporter of the less privileged in the society." 

Receiving the award from the group, Ugbede appreciated the body for honouring him. The event took place at the State Secretariat of CAN in Makurdi.

The cleric said "the vulnerable in society needs support and care to live more useful lives capable of benefitting other people in the society." According to him, what he had done through support particularly the vulnerable people was aided by Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia worthy of appreciating the Governor for the gesture.

To sustain the relationship the clergyman explained that the support would attract greater benefits from the state administration. 

For the Pan African Integrity Initiative Center, Rev. Ugbede appreciated the group for the honour and said "I didn't know that people were watching me, I did not lobby for it " 

Rev. Ugbede also thanked Christians in the state for standing with the leadership of CAN and sought greater collaborations to achieve the desired goals for God to take glory for the award.

The National Coordinator of the body, Ambassador Sonny Goli, represented by Timothy Msugh Atoza said, Ugbede "consistently supported and facilitated the settlement of expensive medical bills for the men of God and the underprivileged citizens." 

He added that the clergyman went "as far as seeking direct intervention of the Executive Governor of Benue State whenever necessary" to save lives of the people. 

Goli said "you have taken the Gospel beyond the church walls by visiting IDPs camps, identifying with the displaced and bringing them hope." 

According to the Ambassador Ugbede has been initiating and driving important projects in communities aimed at the enhancing the growth of the Christian body in Benue State.

The National Coordinator said "in a time when many chase recognition, you have chosen responsibility. When others speak from a distance, you draw near. You are the very essence for the missionary integrity."

Others who spoke included the State Assistant Secretary of CAN, Apostle General Mike Nkiri, WOWICAN Chairperson, Lady Cecilia Member Amishiave, Vice Chairman, Christian Council of Nigeria, Bishop Joseph Atimga and WOWICAN Chairman, Rev. Barr. Bobby Tavershima among others.
