NCRT Hails VP Shettima’s UNGA Performance, Describes It as Proof of Loyalty to Tinubu, Nigeria

The National Coalition for Renewed Transformation (NCRT) has praised Vice President Kashim Shettima for what it described as an “outstanding and historic performance” at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where he represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and delivered Nigeria’s address.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the coalition’s president, Otunba Leke Adebodun, said Shettima’s delivery at the global stage was both a testament to his loyalty to President Tinubu and a reflection of Nigeria’s renewed commitment to peace, multilateralism, and sustainable development.

“The Vice President carried Nigeria’s voice with dignity, conviction and clarity. At a time when global institutions are under intense scrutiny, his presentation reflected not only loyalty to the President but also fidelity to the ideals of Nigeria’s founding fathers and the aspirations of millions of citizens,” Adebodun said.

He noted that Shettima’s speech touched on a wide range of issues including global debt, climate change, peace and security, digital innovation, the plight of Palestinians, and the call for reform of the UN Security Council.

According to him, the Vice President’s delivery underscored Nigeria’s readiness to reclaim its role on the world stage.

“When he spoke about billions being wasted on wars while little is invested in peace, he gave voice to the frustrations of the developing world. When he pressed the case for Africa to have a permanent seat on the Security Council, he echoed a demand long overdue. And when he declared that Palestinians deserve a home of their own, he highlighted Nigeria’s principled commitment to justice and human rights,” Adebodun said.

The coalition also commended Shettima for drawing connections between Nigeria’s domestic challenges and global realities. His references to floods in Maiduguri and other cities, the threat of terrorism, and the burden of debt were described as a reminder of how interconnected the fate of nations has become.

NCRT further said the Vice President’s outing demonstrated the trust and unity between him and President Tinubu.

“There is no daylight between them. The Vice President did not merely read a speech; he embodied the Renewed Hope vision and presented Nigeria’s case with passion and precision. This is the mark of loyalty that strengthens leadership rather than diminishes it,” the group added.

The coalition stressed that Shettima’s performance was not only symbolic but substantive, with key messages likely to influence global policy debates in areas such as international financial reform, asset recovery, inclusive taxation and climate financing for developing countries.

“Vice President Shettima reminded the world that Nigeria is not a passive observer but an active participant in shaping global conversations. His presence in New York was proof that under President Tinubu, Nigeria is prepared to lead Africa and engage the world with confidence,” Adebodun said.

The group urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the Vice President’s outing, noting that it projected both loyalty to the President and commitment to the people.

“This was not just about international diplomacy; it showed that Nigeria has leaders who can articulate our vision before the world. It was loyalty that is intelligent, not blind—loyal to the President and to the nation at the same time,” the statement read.

Reaffirming its support for the Tinubu administration, the coalition pledged to continue mobilising Nigerians toward national renewal and transformation.

“At UNGA 80, Vice President Shettima stood tall for Nigeria. That moment belongs not just to him or the President, but to every Nigerian who still believes in the promise of a great nation. We celebrate him and reaffirm our loyalty to President Tinubu and the country we serve,” NCRT stated.
